Statewide Learning Network Meeting - March 8, 2007

Clarion State House Inn, Springfield

We took advantage of the more central Springfield location of this afternoon session to acccomplish several desired goals:

  • We had a chance to thank several legislators for their ongoing support.
  • A substantial group of candidates experienced the State Capitol and learned how the legislature has enabled their education.
  • We got to meet and hear from a large contingent from the host GYO consortium: Springfield Public Schools, Springfield Urban League, and the higher ed partners (University of Illinois at Springifield, Springfield College in Illinois/Benedictine, and Lincoln Land Community Collegte).
  • The location gave us the opportunity to welcome representatives of the projects in Peoria and Southernmost Illinois that had just submitted their planning grant applications.
  • Finally, we invited participation from a variety of state-wide entities, including the Governor's Office, Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and the Illinois Principals Association, and spent a substantial part of discussion time exploring ways that Grow Your Own Illinois and the individual projects could collaborate with them and similar agencies.

Here are resources from the March meeting.
