If you have reviewed the eligibility requirements and believe you are not eligible for the Grow Your Own Teachers program, you should not be discouraged. There are many paths to teaching in Illinois. If you have a bachelor's degree, for example, there are a number of programs under the rubric of "Alternative Certification" which will give you full credit for your prior education and help you focus specifically on the task of becoming a skilled teacher. Here is a list of the accredited programs of this kind in Illinois.
If you are a high school student planning to go into teaching, contact the universities directly. In addition, you may want to explore the Golden Apple Scholars program.
